Is automatic driving an easier option?
Many pupils with learning or physical disabilities have found that learning to drive in an automatic car is an easier option and less stressful. Although we don't have a specially adapted car with alternative driver controls, we have taught many learners who have had restricted movement with their left leg using an automatic car. We have also taught pupils with learning disabilities and helped them successfully pass both their theory and practical test.
Get the help you need to achieve success
Don't be put off the ideas of driving because it might look difficult. Many people with disabilities successfully learn to drive and pass the test. Get in touch with us to discuss any particular requirements which you have. There are also many disability organisations that can also give you plenty of advice about your needs.
Help for those on higher rate disability living allowance
If you receive the higher rate of the mobility component Disability Living Allowance, then you can apply for a provisional licence at 16 years old. Learners between the ages of 16-24 may also get help from Motability to financially aid them with the cost of learning to drive.
